2-1-1 Big Bend
At 2-1-1 Big Bend, we run 24-hour, toll-free hotlines that people can call for crisis counseling, information, and referrals throughout the year. Our hotlines depend on volunteers for coverage, and we are seeking volunteers for our agency.
Previous experience is not needed to become a Volunteer Hotline Counselor with 2-1-1 Big Bend. We offer volunteers approximately 75 hours of free training in basic crisis counseling skills, specialized intervention techniques, and supervised experience. In return for this comprehensive, professional training, we ask for a 200-hour volunteer commitment. Volunteers who finish their commitment are eligible for numerous benefits including, but not limited to, work-study, course credit, internships, part-time paid employment, and letters of recommendation.

BevShots.com is a locally run e-commerce site that sells modern artwork and unique gifts based off of what different beverages look like when photographed under a microscope. Word has spread rapidly around the world about our company as we have been featured in major media outlets like Time Magazine, ABC News, and the BBC. With the press that we have received recently, we want to ramp up our PR campaign for the upcoming Christmas season to be featured on gift lists in major magazines, television shows, and websites… being featured on Oprah or the Today Show is a definite possibility!
We are looking for PR and marketing students who are interested in doing an unpaid internship for Fall 2010 to help run this PR campaign. The ideal candidate is someone who is extremely motivated and hard-working, who can write content quickly and in a style that is similar to our website, and who has the persistence and courage to make pitches to major media. Interns will be expected to dedicate a minimum of 15-20 hours per week. Interns must also have a car to be able to meet with the rest of the BevShots team. Durwood Publishers, located in Jane Grosslight’s home studio, has written and published eight books on lighting for continuing education credits for architects and interior designers, as well as text books for interior design curriculums at universities and community colleges (www.durwoodpublishers.com).
Durwood is in need of a volunteer to assist with PR and marketing efforts, including social media and Web efforts (see www.lightinghomesandbusinesses.com). The hours per week are very flexible. The applicant must be computer literate and provide a one-paragraph description of his or her skills, along with a resume.
